Earlier the better: The immediate use of an emergency contraceptive can reduce the risk of pregnancy to 1 to 2%. The effectiveness depends on the regimen and the timing. Plan b is quite effective and can be taken up to 72 hrs after unprotected sex - the earlier the better, though. Your period make be later than usual because you used Plan B but be sure to take a pregnancy test if it is more than 2 wks late.
