Peeling and sunburn: Peeling of the skin after a sunburn is unavoidable. Peeling is the the body's way of getting rid of skin cells damaged by the sunburn. This is a protective mechanism, as these damaged cells are at risk of becoming cancerous. In the unfortunate event that you experience a sunburn, your best course of action is to cool the areas with a cooling gel or water. Cool aloe vera gel works quite well.

GentleLittle AvoidUV: Sunburn is direct skin damage, primarily by the upper frequency, ionizing, ultraviolet light waves. Ionizing refers to enough energy per individual photon of light to induce ionization, i.e. Chemical changes, enough to damage the dna, RNA & proteins of cells to the point that they die. The cells are damaged beyond recovery, die & peel away, plus may induce some autoimmune responses. Thus avoid.

Simple means: Sunburn is response of the tissues to injury from solar radiation. It is simply inflammation which means increase blood flow to the area to promote healing. Do not use ice as this can injure already injured skin. Cool water soaks can help as can taking anti-inflammation medicines like Motrin or advil (ibuprofen). Avoid any further damage as this can cause scarring . Good skin cream applied daily/gently helps.
