Rest: Non weight bearing or use of a rigid sole shoe when active to restrict motion and offer as much stability as possible.

Couple of things: As long as there is no deformity of the toe you can splint the toes together to decrease bone motion. You can soak in epsom salt and luke warm water to help reduce the swelling.
