How is moxibustion performed?

Various ways: Moxa is a dried herb, artemisia vulgaris, or common mugwort. It is used to warm acupuncture points, either by passing a cigar -shaped roll over an area or letting a smoldering cone burn down on points. Sometimes a sliver of garlic or ginger is used to protect the skin. The cone is removed when it gets too hot.

Heated mugworth: Dr rossman provided exellent information. Scarring and non-scarring moxibustion can be done with smoldering mugworth cones directly on the skin or with a variety of poultices (onion, shallot, ginger, chives, aconite, garlic, fermented soy beans, white pepper, etc) depending on the condition. There are many different indications such as boils, carbuncles, insect bites, snake bites etc.
