A member asked:

How can you help someone who is addicted to heroine?

You can do: Nothing for an opiate addict until the addict decides that help is needed. Heroin kills emotions and feelings, as well as people and relationships. Going to detox or Methadone maintenance is choice that the addict makes; you can't.

It is true: That you have to wait for an addict to ask for help. However, you can express your concern. You can also examine how your behavior enables them to use drugs and try to correct those behaviors. Close friends and family often need counseling and guidance. Start with al-anon and nar-anon.
