Can help cramps, but: Peppermint tea can decrease muscle contractions in the gut. May help with spasm in bowel. Can decrease muscle contractions in lower esophageal aphincter which could increase reflux (back flow), and heartburn symptoms. Enteric coated peppermint oil may be helpful as an adjunct rx. If that is all it takes to control symptoms in ibs, cool. See your doc, be sure it's ibs, you're treating.

Possibly: Peppermint has been found to be effective in 75% of patients with ibs in a study done in italy over 4 weeks. If the tea is not strong enough enteric coated capsules could be tried. The toxicity of peppermint is due primarily to pulegone which should be less than 1%, .
