Rate, Rhythm: Pump function. Rapid or slow heart rates can cause thumping to passing out, irregular heart beats can be signs and skipped beat or extra beats can be dangerous. But the heart is a pump, if it does not push sufficiently, organs are not perfused. Back leads to breathing and swollen ankles.
