Vesicles-Y, Scabs-N: The fluid that is in the small pocket s (vesicles), and open ulcers on a red base are filled with virus- contagious when touched. Once fully scabbed over, then they are typically not contagious. Nevertheless, it would be prudent to wear gloves and wash your hands before and after touching it, and cover the open wet ulcers to avoid getting a secondary infection.
