A 34-year-old member asked:
has anyone taken straterra successfully?

Absolutely: I have many patients who have benefited greatly from strattera (atomoxetine) for adhd. Giving enough time to allow the medication to begin working and in some cases the dose needs to be titrated upward high enough to get the needed benefit. As is true with any medication, there is no absolute guarantee that the medication will be effective and there are other options for adhd as well.

Absolutely: Since my patients have neurodevelopmental disorders, i start with the lowest possible dose & do a slower titration to optimal dose than is done for neurotypical children.Though it takes a few weeks to see the full effect, it has been a blessing for many kids who cannot tolerate stimulants. It can cause urinary retention in men over 40. In kids, this side effect is often that bedwetting stops.

Stimulated: Strattera (atomoxetine) is a stimulant. In some people it can give a sense of energy and improved attention. In others it can make them depressed. Caffeine and alcohol can have similar effects. Social behavior can be appropriate or inappropriate. Drugs can make you think you are appropriate, but appear inappropriate to others.

A 39-year-old member asked:
Can I drink while taking straterra?
1 doctor answer • 6 doctors weighed in

Dr. Evan Altman answered
Psychiatry 19 years experience
Abstinence preferred: The best plan is not drinking alcohol at all any day while taking strattera (atomoxetine). Alcohol can negatively impact the efficacy of strattera and some patients have worsening mood swings when alcohol used with the medication. Strattera does have a risk of increasing suicidal thinking and alcohol can exacerbate this effect. Talk to your doctor for more assistance.

How long after beginning straterra until I will begin to feel its effects?

Dr. Jonathan Nehrer answered

A few weeks: If you are on the correct dose you should notice an improvement in 4 to 8 weeks. But you have to take it every day. Also it needs to have the dose adjusted up at least one dose from the starting dose. You should be on the starting dose for a week or two.

Does THC blocks straterra?

Dr. Patrice Taylor answered
Addiction Medicine 31 years experience
Yes and no: They work on 2 different systems in the brain. So one does not block the other bt straterra is for learning and memory. Thc destroys ones ability to learn and remember. So in a way the answer is yes, but not as a blocker as a doctyor would describe a blocker.
