What can cause the random prick-style stings i feel on my skin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cutaneous vs neural: Sharp sensations like that indicate an origin in the skin or in the nerves. If these cover a wide area that crosses nerve boundaries your problem is in the skin and it would be wise to look for clues there. If limited to a certain spot or sharply localized region this could be either skin or nerve.
