Meds or surgery: The first line treatments for "essential" tremor include propanolol and primidone. These medications reduce the symptoms to the point that the patient is better able to function but they are not curative. In some cases, the tremor progresses to a point where the medications do not provide much help, and there are brain surgeries that may be considered at that point.
