Yes!: You should always tell you partner that you have herpes, for several reasons. (1) it's the right thing to do...You'd want to know if the situation were reversed. (2) you can't always tell when you're contagious, (3) if antibody tests show that your partner doesn't already have it, you can take medication to prevent outbreaks and keep the herpes suppressed.
