Autoimmune: Polymyalgia rheumatica (pmr) is an autoimmune disease that occurs in people 50 years of age and older. It is thought to be genetic, people who get it are born with a propensity to develop autoimmune diseases. No specific trigger (like an infection) has been identified. In addition to pain in the shoulders and hips, pmr patients can become blind. Close monitoring is essential to treatment.
