Microscopic eval: After liquifaction of the sperm sample an hour or so after ejaculation, a drop is placed in a small measured volume chamber, and sperm count and motility are measured under the microscope. Multiplying these values by the sperm volume gives a total motile sperm count, the best single measure of sperm quality. Many other measures exist. Automated systems are available for semen analysis.
