See below: You can try controlling the pain for 3 days. Most ear infections will resolve on their own in that time frame. After 3 days, if you still have symptoms, you will need an antibiotic.

Several choices: Some of these are viral and subside in a few days.Some are bacterial and may self heal in 6-12 weeks, but would likely remain painful & could lead to complications. You could continue to self assess and self treat or have a health care provider confirm your suspicions and initiate treatment.
