Narrowing: Usually done to look for narrowing (stenosis) of the lumen (open area between the walls where blood flows through the an artery) of the internal and common carotid arteries on both sides (right and left).

Few things: Most commonly detects narrowing and degree of that. But can be used to detect dissection or tear inside the artery, aneurysms of the artery, thrombus or clot and detects sometimes tumors like carotid body tumor.
