In general, No. : All cardiovascular surgeons are trained to replace the aortic valve during their residency or fellowship training programs. But, not all of them are proficient nor have the expertise. This depends on the number of aortic valve replacements done by a particular cv surgeon. One may rightly though rarely be classified as a specialist if the experience is limited to aortic valve replacement.
