May resolve: Bv resolves spontaneously in up to 1/3 of nonpregnant and 1/2 of pregnant women. Treatment of BV may reduce the risk of acquiring std's, including hiv. It is for this reason that some doctors advocate treating all women with bv, whether or not they have symptoms.
