Mania: A manic episode is at least seven days of an abnormally elated mental state, typically characterized by feelings of euphoria, lack of inhibitions, racing thoughts, diminished need for sleep, talkativeness, risk taking, and irritability. Individuals may experience hallucinations and other psychotic symptoms. These symptoms cause significant impairment in functioni and may result hospitalization.
