Body contact: When a newborn baby cries, the most comforting responses are usually putting the baby skin to skin, or up against your chest. Movement, slow walking or rocking, also helps. Swaddling the baby in a blanket, also helps to calm. Feeding and sucking are natural soothers as well.

5 S's: Harvey karp's 5 s's are among the best. 1.Swinging-babies love movement and ofteen this calms them down 2.Swaddling-some babies are soothed by wrapping (and some are not) 3.Shooshing-singing, humming, talking 4.Sucking-some need to suck something 5.Side or stomach position while holding. One of these methods usually will soothe the baby. If not, there may be something more bothering baby.Call the md.
