What exactly is a narcissistic emotional masochist?

Emotional masochist: This seems quite a collection of words to call someone! and i'm not sure what was meant when they were said. I'd ask the person directly rather than assume. Many people use the term "narcissistic" to mean "self-involved and selfish." "emotional masochist" could be someone who uses suffering as emotional currency in relationships, but without necessarily acting out masochism in sexual behavior.
