A stroke's severity: The severity of a stroke may vary. The mildest stroke is the TIA, which by definition, lasts less than 24 hours. Some stroke symptoms resolve after 48-72 hours, these are considered mild. Some strokes cause less significant symptoms, such as ankle or wrist weakness, or facial expression weakness. More severe strokes cause more symptoms and last longer. Some symptoms do not resolve.
