Herpes virus induced cold sores usually start with a tingling or itching sensation in the area the sore is going to develop, you may notice a blister begin to form and then it turns into the conventional looking cold sore on the outside of the lip. People who are infected with herpes virus get sores when stressed or immune compromised.

No: There are many different causes for ulcerations on the lips and mouth. It is easier to tell what is causing it with a more detailed history and actually being able to look at a lesion.
