Emergency care: Basic life support (bls) is emergency care for people with life-threatening conditions before they get to the hospital. It usually covers a number of conditions, such as cardiac arrest, choking and drowning. Examples are cpr, and use of an AED (automated external defibrillator). Hospital workers, lifeguards, and first-responders are usually required to be bls certified.
