Less than 8 years: Average age of menarche ( first period) in the us is 12-13 years old. There are many developmental steps for patients to go through puberty such as increased rate of growth, developement of body hair, development of breasts, and the development of the period. Precoccious puberty is when these steps occur early usually less than 8 years and should be evaluated by a doctor.
