A member asked:

Does sam-e affect birth control, the way st john's wort might?

Not aware of this: To my knowledge, it does not appear that taking s-ame causes any birth control pill interaction. However, if any of our colleagues on health tap know differently i would certainly be open to any further discussion on this. Always check with your pharmacist if you aren't sure as they often possess a greater weath of information regarding medicine and their potential interactions.

No.: Agree with dr. C sam-e can interact with ssri's, st john's wort, 5-htp and l tryptophan. Should be used carefully if you are also taking blood thinners, or if you are actively bleeding. Always good to be careful.
