What does the filter in a blood transfusion do?

Filter: The blood in the plastic bag is actually a living thing so it is natural that some of the red blood cells deteriorate over time. The filter assures us that the dead red blood cells get filtered out and only the good, healthy cells get into your blood stream.

Remove debris: Filters will remove cellular debris, small or microscopic clots. They should be used for all transfusions although there are different types depending on what is being transfused.
