First, diagnosis: Ear ache or otalgia may be caused by a number of disorders. If your hearing has not changed and you are not a q-tip user, it is most likely that your ear is not the site of the pain. Tmd or disorders related to the muscles of mastication are the most common problems causing ear ache in the absence of ear disorders. You first need a diagnosis by and ENT doctor before you proceed. Heat, analgesic.

Diagnosis: First, find out what the problem is. See an ENT doc. If ear normal, may be jaw joint pain (TMJ). If TMJ, See a TMJ-orofacial pain expert to help evaluate and treat your problem. A TMJ-oro-facial pain expert can be general dentist, an oral surgeon, prosthodontist, orofacial pain specialist. Ask your physician, dentist or dental society for a recommendation.
