Difficult to answer: First, the mental d/o is not contagious. Second, livibg with someone with a mental d/o can be very difficult. Whether others are affected by the illness depends on a number of factors: coping skills of other members, current stressors, support system, whether person in treatment, acceptance of treatment, type of d/o, etc.
