Stoppage of stool: Fecal impaction occurs when fecal matter gets "stuck" inside the colon and cannot be moved by the colon's natural peristalsis. This constitutes a matter of medical urgency, because impaction raises the risk of perforating the colon due to the increased pressure, to mention nothing of the fact that it can be incredibly painful.
