How come my facial hair is patchy?

Dr. David Sax answered

Alopecia Areata: This may be due to a medical condition called alopecia areata. This can cause patch like hair loss along the bearded area due to autoimmune reaction. This can be treatable by a dermatologist with low dose steroid injections. There can be other less common causes of patchy hair loss which may need to be evaluated by a dermatologist.
