A member asked:

Are genital sores and genital herpes the same?

2 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Yes and No: The virus that causes genital herpes (herpes simplex 2) is a different variant of the herpes virus that causes oral herpers (simplex 1). However, some research has indicated herpes simplex 1 can cause genital herpes but the degree of involvement seems to be less than in a herpes simplex 2 virus infection.

Yes, maybe: If you have soreness, burning blister on the genital area is most likely a herpes genitalia. The term "sore" is not specific. I'd advise having a doctor lookat you.
