Depends: You can be immunosuppressed and still have a normal white blood cell count (wbc). For many patients we talk about the ANC -- absolute neutrophile count. There is a continuum of low counts from mild (below normal) to moderate to severe (<500). Other wbcs may be reduced such as lymphocytes or other cells that are usually not measured with the usual cbc.
