Several: Ulcerative colitis is a type of inflammatory bowel disease that affects the large intestine. Initially it can be treated with medication if mild in form. If severe or of long duration it may require surgery. Frequent colonoscopic surveillance is needed. There is a higher risk of colon cancer associated with uc.
