A member asked:

It true that people suffering from atrial septum defect can never have normal kids?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Inheritance ~ 4%: If you are healthy enough to contribute to or become pregnant, the risk of any of the multiple congenital heart malformations (inclusive) approximates 4% . Add that to the general risk of any pregnancy having an unexpected outcome (4%) & you have ~92% chance of a normal outcome. A sit down with a genetic counselor can help you understand each component of family or personal history to this process.
