What kind of liver diseases are caused by alcohol?

Cirrhosis, hepatitis: Chronic, excessive alcohol use can cause acute alcoholic hepatitis, alcoholic fatty liver disease and ultimately lead to cirrhosis of the liver. Liver cancer can occur as well once cirrhosis has developed.

Several kinds: In most people, it initially causes fatty liver, where there are large numbers of fat droplets in liver cells. This usually heals completely. In some people, if the exposure to alcohol continues to be heavy, inflammation (alcoholic hepatitis) then occurs. This usually also heals, but if repeated over and over, can lead to scarring (fibrosis), which if it becomes chronic and severe is cirrhosis.
