A member asked:

When you are infected with someone who has aids, do you immediately get aids or hiv first for a few years?

HIV First: You would have HIV first. As the virus attacks the body, the immune system deteriorates and opportunistic infections occur. Once this starts happening, you can be diagnosed with aids. It typically takes several years of being HIV positive to a diagnosis of aids. Medications are lengthening that transition even more.
