There's still hope: The prevalence of HIV depends on the country, but it can be shockingly high in some places. However, there is still hope. Yesterday npr ran a story about botswana, where rates are very high, but where the government is now supplying treatment for all citizens. Treating people with HIV drastically reduces transmission, and can even slow the epidemic.
