Aphthous ulcer: There is no cure for aphthous ulcers (canker sores, but a product called kanka can give some relief from the discomfort.

Yes, Listerine: Listerine purple bottle 30 second rinses 2-3x/day help it heal faster. If you use the mouthrinse when it first develops, it will keep it small and possibly not develop into a larger size. It goes away much faster than the usual 2 weeks long time frame of pain.
Dr. Jeffrey Bassman
Dentistry 45 years experience
Ointments: There are several prescription ointments for canker sores that sooth and heal. There is also an ointment called kenalog (triamcinolone) in orabase that acts like an oral bandage to soothe and protect. You should consult your dentist. No real cure for most people. Mostly preventative and protection.

Location: Ulcerative colitis (uc) and Crohn's disease (cd) are both inflammatory bowel diseases that share many characteristics and symptoms. In uc, the rectum/large intestine are usually involved, and the inflammation is continuous. In cd, the small intestine is more likely to be involved, and the inflammation skips around to different locations they can be differentiated with a colonoscopy and endoscopy.

Genes+environment : A combination of genetic predisposion (for example Crohn's is more common in ashkenazi jews), life events (eg appendectomy increases one and decreases the other), and environmental influences (eg smoking increases Crohn's and decreases severity of uc...). Bet you didn't expect the latter! as knowledge increases more precise factors are identified.
