Steroids: Most itchy conditions of the anus can be treated with steroids, such as hydrocortisone. However if conditions do not improve in 1-2 weeks then an evaluation should be done.

Don't wipe the area!: One of the common reasons for pruritus ani is excessive wiping of the anus. Repeated wiping can damage the skin around the anus and causes discomfort and itching and wetness of the area. The best way to clean the anus after bowel movement is to wash with water and gently dab dry. Also, if you have a sore or wound in that area it may need a biopsy to make sure there is no cancer or other lesion.

Address cause: Pruritis Ani is a vexing problem. Defining the cause may help. Rule out parasitic infection, fungal and bacterial causes, STD's, and fecal leakage/incontinence and treat where appropriate. Topical steroids may help, gently washing the area with water and dabbing dry may help. Miconazole/ Ketoconazole cream if fungal, I occurT fecal leakage is the cause, try placing a wad of toilet paper in anus
