Is a fast and slow heart rate possible in a healthy baby?

Yes: In a fetus, the heart will speed up with activity or stimulation and then slow back down just like your pulse does. These are normal changes and on a monitor strip are good indicators of fetal well being depending on the pattern and how high and low the rate actually is.
