Possible: Herpes is transmitted by direct contact. The herpes virus can be shed from the surface of an infected individual to another, even when there are no visible sores. There usually needs to be a break in the skin on the receiving person as well to transmit the virus. A herpes infection that happens on a finger is called herpetic whitlow.
