Many: There are numerous treatment methods for relieving plantar fasciitis. These vary from stretching, orthotics, nightsplints, cortisone injections, shockwave therapy, physical therapy and surgery just to name a few. First see your foot specialist to get properly diagnosed because heel pain can be caused by other conditions other than plantar fasciitis.

Its a process...: Start with good shoes and a good (not a cheap pharmacy-type) orthotic. Ice massage can help too. Beyond that, it is wise to visit a podiatrist who has a good protocol for treatment. Some might recommend surgery (epf) early on. I'd try a lot of conservative therapy before i'd do that.

Agree on most: Id agree with the previous comment, especially with trying long term conservative treatment before any surgery. However don't assume that you need a podiatrist for this - this can be treated by a general practice doctor, a sports medicine doctor, or even any orthopedic surgeon.

Combo treatment. : If you have plantar fasciitis, and hurt most with the first few steps in the morning, the more you can do together, the better: #1: supportive shoes. #2: firm inserts or orthotics. #3: oral antiinflammatories (check with your doctor). #4: stretching your foot and calf. #5: icing (10 min at a time). You may also need physical therapy or cortisone injections or eswt if available in your area.
