Simple math: Take the average parent height and add 2.5 inches for a male, subtract 2.5 inches for female. This is usually good within an inch. Variations do occur.

A 37-year-old member asked:
Is there an association between grades and school and whether or not a teen will abuse drugs?

No: Like anything else, it depends on multiple factors. "abusing drugs, " in this context, implies a "drug problem." drug use, in and of itself, is not a problem. Like "hearing voices, " in and of itself, is not a problem. Psychiatric problems are a problem when they...Well...Become a problem. You can "hear voices" all day long. But, if they are nice and helpful, is that so bad?

What are some negative effects of teen smoking?

Dr. Roy Benaroch answered

Expense, death: About 50% of teen smokers will continue to smoke as adults. About 1 in 3 adult smokers will die as direct result of their smoking; many others will have significant health problems. Smoking sickens you and the people around you. Cigarettes are expensive and make you stink and die young with crinkly ugly leathery skin. Enough?

A 45-year-old member asked:
Im a teen that can't wait to start. Everyone except me has started what do I do?

Be patient: The timing of menses involves a complex interplay of the hormones that grow you taller, and those that prepair your female organs for life after puberty. Being first or last at anything at your age is stressful, but understand that you will stop growing taller soon after starting. Most only grow 2 inches more. Chances are your genes will make you grow taller & you will start when your body says so.

Whats that teen disease that can be caught by close contact and kissing or even sitting next to eachother?

Dr. Danny Proffitt answered
Family Medicine 43 years experience
Mononucleosis: You are probably referring to "mononucleosis" or the "kissing disease". This is an infectious disease common among youth & teenagers caused by a particular virus call the epstein-barr virus. It causes painful swelling of the lymphoid tissue in the back of the throat, "white spots" over the tonsils & throat, swollen glands usually in the back of the neck, fever, tiredness & sometimes a rash.
