A member asked:

Looking for cancerous tumors, just to be on the safe side. how come you aren't supposed to check all those markers?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

They are not good: Markers are often used to monitor disease when the disease is known. Randomly checking all the tumor markers out of context will lead to many falsely positive results (abnormal results in a healthy patient). Best advice is to go for regular checkups and have all recommended screening tests. When you have your car serviced, you don't ask them to do every diagnostic test if the car runs fine, right?
