Yes, likely: The bacteria in the lake can cause eye infections. Rarely a severe infection can be caused by acanthamoeba in lake water.

I have an allergic reaction (nasal congestion, sneezing) after swimming in fresh water (lake or river) when water gets into my nose/eyes, but not in the ocean. What can I do to reduce avoid a reaction, but still be able to swim?
