Sepsis infection: Sepsis is not a particular kind of infection, but rather a collection of symptomatic responses the body has to any sever infection. The responses themselves (low blood pressure, fever or low body temp, rapid heart rate, high or low white blood count) can lead to problems, but are meant to fight infection. Infections that progress to sepsis can do so rapidly (hours) or slowly.
