A member asked:

What is the indirect and direct coombs test?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

RBC antibodies: These tests are used to detect antibodies against red blood cells (rbcs). The direct Coombs test is used in autoimmune hemolytic anemia. That's when your antibodies attack & destroy you own rbcs. The indirect test is used to detect potential transfusion reactions & in pregnancy especially for rh incompatibility when mom is rh- & fetus is rh+. For a more complete explanation see wikipedia.
