A member asked:

Why are there so many men doctors in the women's health section?

6 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

HISTORICAL: Historically, physicians were men. Now barriers are no longer valid and many physicians are female. There are some fields of medicine that are still male dominated like surgery. There are many reasons for this imbalance. What really matters is the skill and the compassion and the physician with whom you are most comfortable and trust.

More men: Most of this is due to the fact that there are just more male physicians. In 1975 women only made up 20% of doctors. Now there are graduating about 50% women from medical schools. Check out (goo.Gl/agnpy) for a pdf with a better explanation including trends. Best way to fix this is to encourage young women to apply for these positions.
