Can i use silver sulfadiazine on a baby's diaper rash?

Not a good idea.: Silver is a toxic metal and has caused some problems in older children and adults when used to treat burns. For that reason silver sulfadiazine is no longer a favored agent. Babies have thinner skin that absorbs chemicals more readily, especially if ti's irritated or raw. So stick with the usual diaper rash products. Check with your pediatrician if the rash is severe or not clearing up.

Not under 2 months: It is safest to avoid silver sulfadiazine ("silvadene") on babies under 2 months of age. The cream is really most appropriate for burns, so i would advise perhaps zinc oxide instead for a typical diaper rash. Other alternatives include regular petroleum jelly or aquaphor, a+d ointment, or other diaper rash creams available otc. If things are getting worse, best to see your doctor.
